Classic Chili Bowl


INGREDIENTS
  1. 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
  2. 2 medium (1 cup) onions, chopped
  3. 1 small (1/2 cup) green bell pepper, chopped
  4. 1 rib (1/2 cup) celery, chopped
  5. 1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh garlic
  6. 2 (14.5-ounce) cans diced tomatoes, undrained
  7. 2 (15-ounce) cans kidney beans, undrained
  8. 1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce
  9. 1 to 2 tablespoons chili powder
  10. 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
  11. 1 teaspoon salt
  12. 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  13. 1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper

DIRECTIONS
  1. Cook ground beef, onions, green pepper, celery and garlic in 5-quart saucepan over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until meat is browned (10 to 12 minutes). Drain off fat.
  2. Stir in all remaining ingredients except cheese. Continue cooking until mixture comes to a full boil (5 to 8 minutes).
  3. Reduce heat to low. Cook, stirring occasionally, until flavors are blended (30 to 40 minutes). Top each serving with cheese triangles.

Microwave Directions:
  1. Combine ground beef, onions, green pepper, celery and garlic in 5-quart microwave-safe casserole. Cover.
  2. Microwave on HIGH, stirring after half the time, until meat is no longer pink (12 to 16 minutes). Drain off fat.
  3. Stir in all remaining ingredients except cheese. Cover; microwave on HIGH, stirring after half the time, until mixture comes to a full boil (18 to 25 minutes).
  4. Reduce power to MEDIUM (50% power); microwave until flavors are blended (20 to 30 minutes). Top each serving with cheese triangles.
